Childkind Schools Director Amy McIntyre

Childkind Schools was founded in 1986 by Amy McIntyre as the fulfillment of a life-long dream to create a model program for children and their parents.

In the years since, we have helped hundreds of children get a good start for school and life using a curriculum that emphasizes learning through play. Our classrooms are a rich mix of the best in early childhood education. You will find elements of Montessori, Waldorf, Reggio, Piaget, and more in our materials and curriculum.

Childkind's approach has proven to be a powerful tool for giving children the skills they need to be happy and successful in school and life.

Mission

Our mission is to help children develop the foundation for a lifetime of creative learning. We strive to nurture the basic knowledge, dispositions, and feelings essential for success in school and in life. We encourage and nourish a thirst for learning, enjoyment of play, habits of concentration, initiative, creativity, and self-confidence./

Director

Amy McIntyre earned her B.A. in Human Development and Psychology from the University of the Pacific. She completed her Masters in Education with early childhood emphasis and cognate in counselling at Sonoma State University. She holds a lifetime California Children's Center Instructional Permit and an Infant/Child Mental Health Certificate. She is a member of the National Association of Early Childhood Educators and is a former board member of the Sonoma County Association for the Education of Young Children. She has worked professionally in early childhood education since 1979 and opened Childkind Schools in 1986.

Staff

Childkind is proud of its outstanding staff of early childhood educators. All of our staff exceed the training and education requirements established by the State of California for preschool programs. One quarter of our staff hold teaching credentials. All staff members are CPR and First Aid certified. Our preschool programs have very low staff turnover and are anchored by teachers who have been at Childkind more than 5 years.

History

Childkind Schools opened in 1986 with our Childkind Laguna Preschool site on Laguna Road in Santa Rosa. With a beautiful and convenient country location and carefully designed learning environment, the school quickly reached its licensed capacity of 24 children.
